Day for Congress

A New Day Starts Now

Dear Friend,

I am Senator Dick Day and I am running for Congress in the First District.  I want to thank you for visiting my web site and tell you why I think I’m the best person to represent you in the U.S. Congress.

First, you should know that I have a reputation around the State Capitol for being pretty outspoken and getting passionate and raising my voice – especially when people play fast and loose with the facts or defy commonsense.  “You know where he stands” is my slogan.

Right now, for example, I’m pretty passionate about gas prices and monster profits at Exxon-Mobil and about a Congress that refuses to tap into our own natural resources while Americans send our hard earned dollars to Middle East dictators and tyrants like Hugo Chavez.  I’m fired up about people breaking the law to come into the United States and take jobs while using services the rest of us pay for.  It’s time to get tough not just talk tough.

I’m outraged that we send billions of dollars to Washington, and it goes into a candy dish and comes back as funding, not necessarily for the most worthy projects, but for someone’s pet project.  I’ll stand strong against pork barrel earmarks!

I’m fed up with the federal government IOU of $9.5 trillion, $31,100 for every American.  And with a Congress that is addicted to spending and buys votes with pork barrel projects that may be nice, but not the best, or most necessary, use of taxpayer money.  We’ve sent both Democrats and Republicans to Congress, and they both spent money like drunken sailors.  No more!

Too many people go to Washington to pursue self-interests instead of the people’s interests.  Not me!  I know first hand what it’s like to serve a cause greater than myself.  I served in the U.S. Navy and am a proud member of veteran’s groups like AMVETS.  After my military service, I first got involved in local government helping my brother Dewey in his successful run for mayor of Rochester.  IBM transferred my wife, Janet, and me and our four kids to Owatonna where I got involved in Little League and many civic causes.

I’m proud to have later served on a city council and county board that were known for getting good value for taxpayer dollars and presiding over a time of significant economic growth in our community.  I also owned and operated my own business, Day & Associates, which bought, sold and managed properties in Owatonna and Rochester for ten years.

As minority leader in the state Senate, I helped solve a $4.5 billion deficit without raising taxes.  We cut spending and Congress can too!

As leader, I led the charge to get rid of the Profile of Learning which took control away from parents and local school boards and I will lead the charge to get rid of No Child Left Behind and replace it with a program that demands accountability by empowering parents not bureaucrats.

I hope you will think that getting passionate and raising my voice is the way you want to be represented in Congress.  We have a primary election on September 9th to decide who the Republican candidate is.  I’d like you to get to know me, and I would like to learn what you want the federal government to do for you and what you don’t want the federal government to do to you!

Sincerely,

Senator Dick Day
Candidate for Congress
